Overview

The Agency is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners. The individual districts appoint the Commissioners and determine the length of their term. Positions within the Board are appointed annually in July.

History

The Central Marin Sanitation Agency is the product of consolidation between the San Rafael Sanitation District, City of Larkspur, Ross Valley Sanitary District (Formerly Known as Sanitary District #1), and Sanitary District #2 of Marin County in October 1979. Larkspur withdrew from the JPA in January of 2020. CMSA is responsible for treating and disposing of wastewater and biosolids from Central Marin County and produces recycled water and renewable power. CMSA also regulates the commercial, industrial, and institutional discharges into the sewage collection system of member districts.
