Roger Smith is part of the fourth generation of his family to live and work in San Rafael. He was educated at local schools through high school and then attended the University of California at Davis (B.S. in Food Science ) and U.C. Berkley (MBA).
Roger’s professional career has been in commercial real estate in the North Bay, focused mainly on non-residential property leasing, sales, and development. He has been involved in practically all aspects of retail, office, and industrial real estate, which has provided extensive exposure to the business communities in Marin and first-hand knowledge about the economic forces and trends that have changed the face of the county.
At the same time, Roger has been consistently involved in community affairs in various ways. He has volunteered his time and skills to organizations that include Rotary, Planned Parenthood, the City of San Rafael, the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, the Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District, the Marin History Museum, the College of Marin, and others.
This background, combined with a lifetime of observing the dramatic changes that have occurred in Marin over the past 70 years, has provided Roger with a broad view of the challenges and opportunities in Marin. Building on this experience and expertise, Roger views his position at LAFCo as another excellent opportunity to be an informed voice helping move our community forward.
