The District is governed by a six-member Board of Directors appointed by member's agencies.

History

The Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin is a joint powers agency formed in 1979 to consolidate wastewater collection, treatment, water reclamation and disposal needs of about 29,500 residents in southern Marin County. Members of the agreement include Almonte, Alto, and Richardson's Bay sanitary districts, Tamalpais Valley Community Services District, and the City of Mill Valley. The agency is responsible for the construction and installation of wastewater collection, treatement, reclamation, and disposal facilities to serve the southern Marin area. SASM is responsible for maintaining these facilities and their standards. SASM's operated fiscal year 2016-2017 with a total operating revenue of roughly $5.5 million.
