Overview
The Southern Marin Emergency Medical-Paramedic System is governed by an four-member Board of Directors with there being one (1) representative and one (1) alternate from each member agency.
History
Southern Marin Emergency Medical Paramedic System (S.M.E.M.P.S.) was established in October 1980 to better serve the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) needs of residents and visitors in southern Marin County. Prior to 1980, EMS delivery was provided by firefighters that were certified as Emergency Medical Technicians. Realizing that a better system was possible, the local jurisdictions came together and formed a Joint Powers Authority. The member agencies are Mill Valley, Tiburon, Belvedere, Southern Marin Fire District, Sausalito, and the County of Marin.
